Privacy policy — Foxmark

Last updated: 27 September 2026

Foxmark is a book reader that runs on your device. It has no account, no server of its own, and no analytics.

The short version

Your reading stays on your phone. Your books, your reading position, your highlights and your notes never leave it. There is no sign-in, nothing you read is uploaded, and nobody — including us — can see what you read.

The one thing that ever goes over the network is a purchase record: whether your Google Play account owns Foxmark Complete, kept by RevenueCat, the service that handles Foxmark's purchases. It is tied to a random ID, not to your name or email, and says nothing about your books. A release that does not offer purchases makes no network request of its own at all.

What Foxmark can access

Folders you pick. Foxmark asks Android's system folder picker for read-only access to the folders you choose, and can see nothing else on your device. It holds no storage permission. You can withdraw that access at any time in Foxmark's Settings → Folders, or in Android's own settings.

Books other apps hand to it. If you open a downloaded book with Foxmark, or share one to it, Android grants temporary access to that one file. Foxmark copies it into its own storage so the book keeps working after the temporary access expires. That copy is removed when you remove the book from your library, or when you uninstall Foxmark.

Notifications, if you allow them, are used for one thing: the playback controls shown while a book is being read aloud.

What stays on your device

All of it lives in Foxmark's private storage and is deleted when Foxmark is uninstalled. It is included in an Android device backup only if you have device backup switched on; that backup is between you and Google.

Files Foxmark writes, when you ask it to. Two features write into a folder you pick in the system picker, and only that folder:

Both stay on your device (or wherever that folder actually lives — if you point Foxmark at a folder that syncs to a cloud drive, your files go where that drive takes them).

The home-screen widget, if you add one, shows the book you are reading: its cover, title, the section you are in, how far through you are and your streak. That is drawn on your home screen, so it is visible to anyone who can see your phone. Nothing about it is sent anywhere. Remove the widget and it stops.

What leaves your device, and only when you ask

Foxmark makes one kind of network request on its own: asking RevenueCat whether this Google Play account owns Foxmark Complete (see Purchases below). Four things can send you out of the app, each only when you tap them:

What Where it goes What it carries
Looking a word up Nowhere, by default: Foxmark's English dictionary is on your device. Only if you tap an app or web search, or chose one in Settings The single word you selected
A link inside a book Your browser The link the book contains
"Rate Foxmark" Your app store Nothing but the app's own listing
Buying the unlock or a tip Google Play, then RevenueCat Google Play takes the payment; Foxmark never sees your payment details. RevenueCat receives the purchase record (below)

Read-aloud uses the text-to-speech engine installed on your device. Some Android speech engines process text in the cloud — that is a property of the engine you have chosen, not of Foxmark, and you can see and change which engine is used in Android's own settings.

Purchases

Foxmark Complete is a one-time purchase through Google Play, along with optional tips. Purchases go through RevenueCat (revenuecat.com), a service that confirms them with Google Play and remembers them, so the unlock can be restored on a new phone.

What RevenueCat receives: a random ID made for this install, the Google Play purchase token, which products were bought and when, and the basics any connection carries (app version, device model, country for pricing). It does not receive your name, your email, your payment details, or anything about your books or your reading. It is sent encrypted.

What it is used for: making the unlock work, restoring it, and telling us how many copies sold. Nothing else, and it is never used for advertising. Foxmark also remembers the unlock on your device, so it keeps working offline.

To have your purchase record deleted, write to us at the address below with the Google Play order number (it is in your Google Play receipt); we will delete it at RevenueCat. Google's own privacy policy covers the payment itself, and RevenueCat's covers how it keeps the record.

Advertising and analytics

There are none. Foxmark contains no advertising SDK, no analytics SDK and no crash reporter. Nothing profiles you, and nothing about your reading is collected, sold or shared. The only figures anyone sees are the ones Google Play shows any developer: how many people installed the app and how many bought the unlock.

Children

Foxmark has no social features, no user-generated content and no advertising, and collects nothing but the anonymous purchase record above, so it is suitable for any age. It shows whatever books you put in it.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published here and the date at the top will change. Any change that affects what Foxmark can access will also be mentioned in the app's release notes.
